SASS revised the Shooter’s Handbook for 2022. A copy can be obtained from Sassnet.com.
There is a specific rule on page 28 under Loading and Unloading Procedures that provides:
“Competitors shall not leave the designated loading area with a loaded firearm unless they are called to the stage as the next competitor to begin the stage by the Timer Operator or Expeditor.” The penalty is a SDQ.
While the rules previously provided that “ Failure to adhere to loading and unloading procedures” was a SDQ, it did not specifically state that moving to the stage without direction from the TO was a problem. However, that was the prior interpretation. It was also not uncommon for a spotter to call someone to the line if the stage was clear and the TO was delayed from retuning to the line. No more!
Under the revised rule, only the TO, or a properly designated expeditor can call a shooter to the stage. Leaving the loading table and moving to the stage without specific direction results in a SDQ.
Welcome to 2022.
