And just in case you are thinking it..... NO.... This was not brought up in any TG meeting or discussion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MODIFICATION APPLICATIONS APPROVED - 2020 18 FEB 2020 MOD: Replacement of original metal magazine tube with one made of carbon fiber. PURPOSE: If the magazine tube receives a blow from the outside, it cannot dent. 17 SEP 2020 MOD: Replacement of 1873 loading gate with an 1866 type PURPOSE: Rounds are easier to load into the magazine “and specially ladies don’t break their fingernails anymore.” 11 NOV 2020 MOD: Installation of an internally-adjustable set screw on the carrier arm of 1873 lever. PURPOSE: Easier to adjust the timing of broke-in, worn, changed parts, etc. than spot-welding metal to the surface where material is needed (which is current practice). Negates the need for welding equipment to make necessary adjustments. 09 DEC 2020 MOD: Replacement of slotted magazine tube end cap on 1866 & 1873 rifles with a knurled “tool-less” version. PURPOSE: Easy to remove at unloading table in case rounds have to be removed from tube; no tools needed; and the shooter avoids hand being in front of the muzzle in case a live round is still in the chamber.

This is a copy of a post I put on the TG SASS wire. I have pondered on this for 24 hours now and still this modification, in my mind, offends the whole concept of "Cowboy" by bringing in modern materials to solve a problem which I am sure many didn't know existed until this was posted. "Dented magazine tubes". And as a representative of a Club I have a responsibility to stand up and object even though I may stand alone. From an appearance standpoint, this modification sticks out like a sore thumb with it's basket weave design. Appearance is an important factor in this sport. In fact, if it wasn't for our appearance we would just be a bunch of funny named shooters shooting western three gun. Carbon fiber? Is there suddenly a shortable of steel tubing that new tubes can be made from? I sincerely believe the ROC has overstepped its mandate on this one and has placed their combined boots on Territorial Governor property by effectively changing the rules of the game. What is the next step? Simulated wood stocks? For a sport that does not allow any modern material to be worn as clothing to allow this ONE item into the sport is allowing camels nose to be in the tent. (But hell. I frown at modern recoil pads on gunstocks when they aren't covered by a butt cover) I hope that there are more of my fellow TGs that will stand with me on this and demand that not only this ruling be reconsidered but that it be rescinded! Many of us cannot travel to Winter Range just to go to a TG meeting. I have traveled to regional events where TG meetings were canceled due to lack of participation by representatives of SASS. And to top it off, in this past year the entire matches have been cancelled. The pictures of this modification did not appear in the minutes of the Winter Range TG meeting, nor did any notation of approving a carbon fiber magazine tube appear. I apologize if I am off base on this one. But we do not allow an extra hole in a Marlin Receiver as an external MOD. (Good luck at catching this one). We don't allow an almost invisible white diamond in a rear sight. (This one goes unnoticed for years sometimes until a good TO spots it). There. I have had my say now. I'll put my mask back on and go back to the desert. ACE And just in case you are thinking it..... NO.... This was not brought up in any TG meeting or discussion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! None of these modifications should be allowed, especially the carbon fiber tube. Frankly, I don't believe 'dented mag tubes' is the the real reason this was proposed. I suspect it had to do with weight reduction/speed of swinging barrel to next target...
You know, just because SASS allows something, doesn't mean that a local club has to agree to it. You could ask the club members if they want any of these mods to be allowed locally. Kinda like jury nullification!
