The Aging of our Sport:
What a great sport we have in Cowboy Action Shooting. You know, being able to dress up like Cowboys and Cowgirls, shoot western guns, tell stories and socialize with like minded people. What has made this possible the last few years? A few people silently working in the various clubs. Without these few people we wouldn’t have the monthly meets or the work intensive annual shoots. We wouldn’t have the luxury of three weekends of shooting close to home, the fun of celebrating our Western heritage that people all of the World find fascinating.
Fifteen years ago when Skye and I started this adventure, we were “young” (Skye still is!) but guess what, we are all getting older. The dust of time is getting harder to shoulder, and it is time to plan for our future. It is not like the few who work so hard are obligated to please all of us. We are all in this together. We need to work on bringing in new shooters, and some younger people also. (yes, 50 is young to me!!)
Now is a critical time. Can you step up and help, put personal differences aside so that our Clubs can continue? Each year we see another club disappear, and we cannot afford to lose any more. Come to the meetings (yes, there will be meetings) and volunteer. Many volunteers will make light work for all of us. You do not have to carry and set up steel, there are other things that need to be done such as administrative, to make everything run smoothly.
Consider the alternatives.......
Sincerely, Shaky D and Nevada Skye
